Elk Herd Causes a Crazy Traffic Jam in Colorado

Sometimes in Estes Park, Colorado you have to stop traffic so a big herd of elk can walk by – no big deal.

Local resident Autumn Phillips caught this really cool footage of the elk strolling across the street while a number of startled drivers looked on from their cars. One antlered male even walked right between a row of cars and scared a small child.

The original video was posted to local news channel KOAA 5’s Facebook page, and it already has millions of views.

This Adorable Kid is Your New Workout Trainer

Move aside, Shia LaBeouf – this cute Jamaican kid is our new motivational speaker.

Marlon Smith has an entire YouTube channel of his kids being adorable, and this workout video went big on Reddit today. If that doesn’t make you want to toughen up, I don’t know what will.

Glance through the rest of the channel and you’ll find this kid will also encourage you to find Jesus and do good in school, and he’ll sing John Legend songs, all in his awesome accent.

(The internet, of course, is now claiming the accent is fake. What do you think? I don’t care either way, he’s still great.)

Two Men Follow and Film a Creepy Stalker in San Francisco

If someone’s being creepy with a camera, sometimes the most effective thing to do is get out your own camera and film them right back.

Jason Juniel and Broadus Parker spotted a creepy older man covertly filming young girls in San Francisco’s Union Square. They followed him and alerted everyone around them to what he was doing.

They also spotted a hole in the paper bag he was carrying, which allegedly housed a camera to film from a lower angle. “He’s recording!” one of them yelled as they followed him “He’s got a video hole and he’s recording under ladies’ dresses!”

After a few minutes of this, the police showed up, questioned the suspect and arrested him. The man was charged with a misdemeanor under California Penal Code 647J which you violate when you “secretly photograph or record a person’s body under or through his or her clothing for the purpose of sexual arousal or gratification.”

Meanwhile, the original Facebook post about the incident has been shared over 15,000 times.

#IStandWithAhmed – Muslim Kid Gets Unfairly Arrested

Fourteen-year-old Ahmed Mohamed was so excited about building his own electric clock that he brought it to school to show his engineering teacher – and he was promptly arrested because other teachers thought he was a crazy terrorist with a bomb.

If you’ve been anywhere near the internet at all today, you know that people are furious over images of the teenager – a nice, nerdy looking kid in a NASA tee shirt – being detained by police and handcuffed, a moment that he later said made him feel like he wasn’t human.

The backlash has been big news all day, with #IStandWithAhmed on the top of the Twitter trends list. Millions of people have been using this hashtag, including a bunch of celebrities; and President Obama himself (or one of his staffers, anyway) responded:
Meanwhile, the principal of MacArthur High School, Dan Cummings, sent a note to all the students’ parents. It does not admit any wrongdoing and insists that student safety is their top priority. “I recommend using this opportunity to talk with your child about the Student Code of Conduct and specifically not bringing items to school that are prohibited. Also, this is a good time to remind your child how important it is to immediately report any suspicious items and/or suspicious behavior they observe.”

Oh, and here’s yet another awkward detail that Reddit has uncovered: the boy’s father, Sudanese immigrant Mohamed Elhassan, twice declared himself a presidential candidate in Sudan on a platform advocating for women’s rights, freedom of the press and fighting terrorism.

Nicole Arbour Fumbles Her Way Through “The View” Appearance

Yes, the Nicole Arbour thing is still happening. Yes, we’re tired of talking about it too. But now she’s making the rounds on mainstream news – we hear she went on CNN today – and we have to pay attention, so here we are.

Self-proclaimed comedian Nicole Arbour went on The View yesterday to defend her controversial viral video “Dear Fat People.” If you need a refresher, this is the video where she claimed fat shaming “is not a thing” and fat people just need to stop being so lazy and disgusting. Despite her insistence that it was satire meant to inspire people to lose weight, there has been intense backlash from the YouTube community and a few celebrities, and she may have even lost a movie gig because of it.

Her performance on The View was basically a rambling rehash of the stuff she’s been saying for weeks – it was satire, it’s totally not bullying because she makes fun of herself for being blonde all the time, this wouldn’t even be happening if she was a guy – while experienced comedians like Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar and Raven-Symoné gritted their teeth and tried to explain why it’s different when full-figured people make fat jokes about themselves.

The most interesting part for me was this exchange, when host Michelle Collins said she would love to see Arbour volunteer for an organization that encourages kids to exercise and “put [her] money where her mouth is” (click for sound):

Alyssa Milano’s Breastfeeding Photo Controversy – #WTFem

Apparently it’s 2015 and we still haven’t sorted out the whole breastfeeding-in-public debate yet.

Alyssa Milano went on Entertainment Tonight recently to talk about the negative comments she’s received for posting photos of herself breastfeeding her baby on Instagram. Here’s the shocking picture in question:

Happy Birthday, my beautiful Elizabella. You’ve taught me that my heart has no end. You were the missing piece to my soul. Thank you for choosing me.

Katy Perry Fell Off a Segway at Burning Man

Katy Perry went to Burning Man and didn’t even know how to ride a Segway properly, what a newbie.

Burning Man, the annual “crucible of creativity” in the Nevada desert, attracts all kinds of artists and thinkers – including ridiculously wealthy artists and thinkers who bring private toilets gourmet chefs. During her stay in Black Rock City, Katy Perry was filming herself riding a Segway when she screwed up a turn and fell off.

In fairness, you would have been distracted too if you were trying to ride a Segway around this weird, Mad Max net bicycle boat thing.

It was windy at Burning Man this year, with gusts blowing sand around at up to 50 miles per hour. Let’s blame Katy’s fall on that.

Meghan Tonjes: What’s Trending Podcast Ep. 6

YouTube’s most outspoken singer/songwriter talks Tinder, #BootyRevolution and internet drama.

Singer/songwriter Meghan Tonjes has been in the spotlight a lot lately, so she had plenty to talk about on the latest episode of the What’s Trending Podcast with Shira Lazar, Lon Harris and Hayley Hoover.

Fresh from the controversy over family vloggers Sam and Nia getting kicked out of Vlogger Fair, Meghan explained how she wound up in the middle of the drama on social media.

“When I saw [Sam] tweet that essentially they were getting kicked out because vloggers are bullies and people are jealous, Truth Tonjes came out real fuckin’ quick. I was like, ‘No one wants to trade places with you right now.’”

She also talked about the New York Post trolling YouTubers like Grace Helbig, Tyler Oakley and Hannah Hart.

“[YouTubers] at that level who have been around this long, everybody has a sense of humor about it for the most part,” she said. “They don’t take it too seriously, but they’re also content and secure in what they’re doing. So when traditional media comes after them, they’re like ‘All right, and I’m going to continue paying my rent with this fake internet money, and working from home without pants on.’”

Listen on Soundcloud or download the podcast on iTunes for these discussions, as well as Meghan’s thoughts on her own podcast, taking the perfect butt photo and her adventures on Tinder:

Grizzly Bear Slaps Camera

This grizzly bear in Alaska didn’t like being filmed with a GoPro, so it went ahead and bitch-slapped the camera.

Naturalist and expedition leader Brad Josephs has an entire website and YouTube channel dedicated to Alaska’s bears and other top predators, and this isn’t the first time his camera equipment has been through some close encounters.

In this video, a grizzly tries to EAT the GoPro. (Don’t watch this if you don’t want to know exactly what the inside of a bear’s mouth looks like.)

Grace Helbig and Tyler Oakley are Hosting the Streamys!

The Streamy Awards should be good fun this year – Grace Helbig and Tyler Oakley are back to host the show, now airing on VH1 on Thursday, September 17.

“It’s amazing to be back hosting the Streamy Awards for the second year in a row. There’s no one better to do this with me than Tyler Oakley,” Grace said in a statement.

“I’m so excited to be co-hosting this year’s Streamy Awards alongside my buddy Grace,” said Tyler. “I am so proud to be a part of such a wonderful night celebrating the talents and accomplishments of online creators and #TeamInternet as a whole.”

Grace and Tyler are nominated in the show’s First Person category – fingers crossed for both of them.

(As a side note, can we take a moment to appreciate how People Magazine went out of their way to recognize and praise these YouTubers the day after the New York Post trashed them? Savvy PR work, People, very savvy.)
